Progress report ...

Today marks 1 year since I started riding a stationary bike and tracking the results. I started out riding for 30 minutes at 100 watts to rehab a knee injury. I just kept going and now I'm riding for 1-3 hours per day at 170 watts.  My job requires that I travel a lot so I'm forced to eat in restaurants.  I gained 80 pounds over the course of 8 years.  Last year I set my goal to lose 80 pounds by my 60th birthday, which is in 2 months.  I lost 28 pounds so I'm not going to make it.  However, I stuck to it for a year and I have no intentions of changing.  When I'm traveling I walk at least 10,000 steps per day and when I'm home I hit the bike for at least an hour.  I'll stick to this routine until I drop dead in an airport somewhere.  I use fitbit to track steps and withings to track weight and BP.  I use http://www.fitbit.com, http://www.loseit.com, http://www.dailyburn.com, and http://www.runkeeper.com to keep track everything.  In one year I've ridden my bike for 6,308 miles and I've walked 594 miles.  The walking miles are in addition to normal activity.  I use the loseit.com "fitbit adjustment" and plug that number into a simple algorithm that I wrote to determine how long and how far I walked, in excess of my normal daily activity.  For fun I use http://www.fitocracy.com and http://www.fleetly.com, which are linkable to runkeeper.
